Dog Grooming

Dog Grooming in Burnaby

Grooming with our groomer Shiho, in a space your dog already knows.

Grooming by someone your dog isn’t meeting for the first time

Our groomer, Shiho, works on site at Lucky’s a few days a week.

For dogs who already come to us for daycare, this arrangement removes most of what makes grooming stressful. They are not being handed to a stranger in an unfamiliar building. It is the same place, the same smells, the same routine, and then a groom.

Services, timing and pricing

Contact Shiho for her full list of services. How long a groom takes and what it costs vary with your dog’s size, breed and coat, so she will give you the specific details when you book.

Grooming is booked directly with Shiho, not through the daycare portal:

Shiho: 778-887-4106

When you call, it helps to have ready:

  • your dog’s breed (or best guess) and approximate weight
  • when they were last groomed, and whether the coat is matted
  • the look you want (a photo is ideal)
  • anything that makes grooming hard for them: paws, ears, the dryer, being lifted

Two ways to book a groom

On a daycare day. Because Shiho is on site a few days a week, your dog can be groomed on a day they are already here for daycare: one drop-off, one pick-up, and no second trip across town. Your dog spends the rest of the day with their playgroup. Daycare is charged as usual, separately from grooming.

Grooming only. Your dog doesn’t need to be a daycare client. Grooming-only dogs wait in a crate in the grooming room rather than joining the daycare group, so please drop off and pick up at your appointment time.

How often should your dog be groomed?

It depends on the coat, and Shiho will tell you what she recommends for your dog. As a rough guide:

  • Coats that keep growing (poodles, doodles, shih tzus, many terriers) usually need a full groom every 4 to 8 weeks to stay comfortable and mat-free.
  • Double coats (huskies, shepherds, golden retrievers) are not usually shaved. They benefit from a bath and de-shed, especially during spring and fall shedding.
  • Short, smooth coats need less, but still need regular nail trims.

Brushing at home between appointments is the single biggest thing you can do to keep grooms quick and comfortable. Mats that are allowed to set close to the skin often have to be shaved out.

Helping a nervous dog through grooming

Some dogs find grooming hard: the noise of the dryer, being handled, standing still. A few things tend to help:

  • Familiar surroundings. Dogs who already attend daycare arrive somewhere they know, with people they know.
  • Tired, not wired. A dog who has had a morning of play is usually calmer on the table than one who has spent the day home alone.
  • Short sessions first. For puppies and anxious dogs, a quick bath or nail trim before a full groom builds confidence.
  • Honest notes. Tell Shiho what your dog struggles with. She would rather know in advance.

Not a daycare client yet?

You don’t have to be. But if your dog is anxious about grooming, a few daycare days first tends to make the appointment go better, and your dog’s first daycare day is free. Learn about daycare or book a free assessment.
